Things that are really important

With all that is going on politically in this country now nothing makes you stop and realize how lucky you are to even being able to debate politics. In case you live under a rock, late last evening, Haitian time, a 7.0 earthquake struck the island of Haiti. Haiti is this, according to CIA Factbook...

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere with 80% of the population living under the poverty line and 54% in abject poverty. Two-thirds of all Haitians depend on the agricultural sector, mainly small-scale subsistence farming, and remain vulnerable to damage from frequent natural disasters, exacerbated by the country's widespread deforestation. While the economy has recovered in recent years, registering positive growth since 2005, four tropical storms in 2008 severely damaged the transportation infrastructure and agricultural sector.

Here are some economic numbers, to say they are grim would be too kind...

GDP - per capita (PPP):
$1,300 (2008 est.)
country comparison to the world: 203 (out of 227)
$1,300 (2007 est.)
$1,300 (2006 est.)
note: data are in 2008 US dollars

To give you an idea how bad it is there, the Dominican Republic (the other side of the island) shoots people on site that try to cross the border there. The average Dominican makes 6X ($8100) as what Haitians make. And here is something I found that is tragically prophetic today (link is in the title)

yes it can, and it did. Reports are coming in that the city has been reduced to rubble...
Oct 11, 2008
A recent article in Haiti’s Le Matin newspaper has quoted 65 year old geologist and former professor at the Geological Institute of Havana, Patrick Charles, as stating that “conditions are ripe for major seismic activity in Port-au-Prince. The inhabitants of the Haitian capital need to prepare themselves for an event which will inevitably occur...” According to him, the danger is imminent. He ads “Thank God that science has provided instruments that help predict these types of events and show how we have arrived at these conclusions.”

According to Patrick Charles, Port-au-Prince is traversed by a large fault which is part of the Enriquillo Fault Zone. The fault starts in Petionville and follows the Southern Peninsula ending at Tiburon. In 1751 and 1771, this town was completely destroyed by an earthquake. As proof to his claims, he referred to recent tremors that have occurred in Petionville, Delmas, Croix des Bouquets, and La Plaine. Minor tremors such as these usually signal a larger earthquake to come.

Haiti is no stranger to large quakes with the destruction of Palais Sans Souci near the Citadelle in 1842. It has also been 200 years since any major seismic activity has occurred in Port-au-Prince. This means that the level of built up stress and energy in the earth could one day be released resulting in an earthquake measuring 7.2 or more on the Richter Scale. This would be an event of catastrophic proportions in a city with loose building codes, and an abundance of shanty-towns built in ravines and other undesirable locations. Even the super-rich may not be immune as many own homes with great views, but precariously perched on the mountainsides above Petionville, on ground which is also susceptible to landslides.

Although city officials often discuss this, it is noted that no measures have been put into place to address the situation. Mr. Charles mentions the following devastating scenarios: A giant tsunami reaching all the way to Lake Azuéi (aka Étang Saumâtre) flooding La Plaine, and the complete destruction of Morne l’Hopital which is currently dotted with flimsy shantytowns. If we thought the recent back-to-back hurricanes were devastating, they surely will pale in comparison to a major earthquake in the densely populated Haitian capital.

The population of Port-au-Prince is very dense and would result in many casualties if a strong earthquake were to hit.

The city is full of shantytowns built in ravines and on mountainsdes which would not fare well if disaster struck.

This picture from Mòn Kabrit shows La Plaine and Étang Saumâtre in the background. Patrick Charles believes a large tsunamui could completly inundate this area if a big quake struck.

Martha Coakley Do'h

Put this into the category of shit you really can't make up. From Gateway Pundit

There’s only one “e” in “Massachusetts,” Martha.

A New Martha Coakley ad attacking Scott Brown misspells Massachusetts:

Oh dear... you royally fucked this one up honey, I need to get over to DK (DailyKos) to see their reaction

The video in question (still found it on YouTube, for now...), pause it at 27 seconds to see what they are talking about

What a horrid ad. Does she really want people to start thinking about what they can’t afford after democrats just tripled the national deficit in one year?
Mass Live reported:

On the heels of last night’s final debate between Martha Coakley, Scott Brown and Joseph L. Kennedy, Coakley released a new ad attacking Scott Brown — an aggressive turn that many observers have thought was long overdue.

However the ad’s message might get lost by a spelling gaffe that appears in the ad’s closing seconds. In the fine print appearing at the bottom of the screen, the ad reads:

Paid for by Massachusettes Democratic Party and Authorized by Martha Coakley for Senate. Approved by Martha Coakley.

Close observers will notice that there is an extra ‘E’ tacked onto the end of ‘Massachusetts. It’s a trivial oversight, for sure, but you can bet that the jokes and jabs the typo will inspire will blunt at least some of the impact of the ad.

Here's the Brown response, good but need more substance dude...

And even HuffPo can't believe the shitty strategy of the Coakley campaign, from Jammie Wearing Fool(old refrence)
Meanwhile, an analysis of the debate last night says Brown won. From those hardcore teabaggers at the Huffington Post...

At a time when jobs are scarce, terror is back at orange, and heating oil is expensive, not to mention the rent, guess what: after one year, Coakley and the Democrats can give up talking about Bush-Cheney-McCain. They need to develop and focus on a clear consistent message that comes from the leadership and transparency voters mandated a year ago. Change can mean anything. But voters did not mean more of the same.

Wow... thanks for the gift Coakley campaign. This is getting funny...

Movie Reviews...

This is going to be a monthly (maybe bi-monthly) thing I will do. I might also start reviewing books that I've read. What I am going to do is not just one movie review but a bunch of ones from movies I've seen (either in theater or DVD) recently. I will show the reviews from RottenTomatoes.com and IMDB.com that are user (IMDB) and critics (Rotten Tomatoes) ratings too on top of my personal rating.

Avatar
Yes I actually did see this in theaters and no I'm not going to criticize it like most conservatives have done out there. It is for all practical purposes a lefties wet dream (or as some have referred to it as, Dances With Wolves on another planet). The plot is a yawner and Sigourney Weaver does do a good job playing the nerdy scientist and you need to go see this movie if for nothing else the special effects. Be prepared for nothing like you have ever seen, go see it for the special effects and please turn your brain off. My brain was going for the movie and it actually kind of ruined the experience for me. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it either. Go see it and try not to puke, seriously (because of the effects, yes they are that intense). I almost did.
My review: 6.5/10
IMDB: 8.7/10
Rotten Tomatoes 82% positive reviews

Inglourious Basterds (DVD)
Unlike a lot of people I've talked to I actually thoroughly hated this movie, Quentin Tarantino spent most of the movie jacking off and apparently making old movie refrences. I say apparently because I didn't get them but my Dad sure did. It was too long, drawn out, and flat out rewrites history, and is probably the most disappointing movie I have ever seen. I went in with high expectations and they were crushed. If you've seen the commercials/previews of it they show the only funny parts of the movie, I'm not kidding.
My review: 2.5/10 (and I'm being generous)
IMDB: 8.5/10
Rotten Tomatoes 88% positive reviews

Sherlock Holmes
Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law walk away with this Guy Ritchie (my favorite director outside of Tim Burton) adaptation of the classic novels written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Playing the coked out of his mind genius and facing his current foe, Lord Blackwood, he rapidly at the ends exposes Blackwoods scheme to eliminate Parliment and basically take over England by force. All the time there is this suspicious character lurking in the background, we go to find out at the end of the movie (you would have already figured it out if you have read any of the books) that Professor Moriarty, which basically means they are setting up the second movie villian. Sort of the way that Batman finds the Joker card at the end of Batman Begins. Great, fun little movie, go see it.
My review: 8/10
IMDB: 7.7/10
Rotten Tomatoes 69% positive reviews

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel
I'm not going to lie, I'm kinda embaressed I even saw this one. Date movie, period. But it actually wasn't that bad, the movie had some fun parts and there were old movie refrences thrown in there so I was kind of entertained by that. Don't go see it unless you see it for the $5 matinee price, otherwise your getting ripped off.
My review: 4/10
IMDB: 3/10
Rotten Tomatoes 21% positive reviews

Brown ahead in latest PPP poll!!!!!

I so fucking called this one. Remember what I said yesterday?
So lets say for the sake of argument that the trend continued over the next 3 days here and I'll be generous and only slash 2 points from Coakley because I know 2 polls does not a trend make but it's all the data I have available at the current moment. I predict that the next major poll will have the race 48-47% Coakley. Which means its within the margin of error and its basically tied. Will I be right?
Yep, turns out I am, score for me! :)
Senate Race Competitive
Raleigh, N.C. – The race to replace Ted Kennedy in the US Senate is looking like a toss up, with Republican Scott Brown up 48-47 on Martha Coakley.
Brown is benefiting from depressed Democratic interest in the election and a huge lead among independents for his surprisingly strong standing. Those planning to vote in the special election only report having voted for Barack Obama in 2008 by a 16 point margin, in contrast to his actual 26 point victory in the state. That decline in turnout from Obama voters plagued Democratic candidates for Governor in Virginia and New Jersey last fall. Beyond that 66% of Republicans say they’re ‘very excited’ about turning out while only 48% of Democrats express that sentiment. Brown leads 63-31 with independents and is winning 17% of the Democratic vote while Coakley receives only 6% support from GOP voters. Both candidates are relatively popular, with 57% viewing Brown favorably to only 25% unfavorable and 50% with a positive opinion of Coakley to 42% negative. Those folks planning to vote in the special election are actually opposed to Obama’s health care plan by a 47/41 margin and only narrowly express approval of the President’s overall job performance 44/43. “The Massachusetts Senate race is shaping up as a potential disaster for Democrats,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “Martha Coakley’s complacent campaign has put Scott Brown in a surprisingly strong position and she will need to step it up in the final week to win a victory once thought inevitable.” PPP surveyed 744 likely Massachusetts voters from January 7th to 9th. The margin of error is +/-3.6%. Other factors, such as refusal to be interviewed and weighting, may introduce additional error that is more difficult to quantify.

HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT! Not only did I get the numbers right (48-47) I actually underestimated Browns move from 39-50 and 41-50 for Coakley and then a 48-47 Brown lead! WOW, talk about tanking, they say the margin of error is +/-3.6% which means Browns numbers are in the range of 44.4%-51.6% (not bad for a Republican in Massachusetts) and Coakley's range is 43.4%-50.6%. That is huge because that means absolute best case for Coakley is 0.6% over the magical 50%. What might be more telling is this from realclearpolitics.com

Poll Coakley (D) Brown (R) Spread
PPP (D) 47 48 Brown +1

Rasmussen 50 41 Coakley +9

Suffolk 58 27 Coakley +31

Western NE College 58 32 Coakley +26

Suffolk 54 24 Coakley +30

Her numbers were never that far above 50% and I rememeber reading one blogger saying that she wasn't the strongest candidate in the democratic field and got the nomination by default and apathy. Since September Brown has literally doubled his numbers while Coakley has lost 7% of her vote and it stands at a 31 point swing. This is amazing and shaping up to be an upset. Heck at this point I'd say the upset is if the democrats hold on to this seat. Every freaking thing is trending towards Brown, the left is in full meltdown mode. Proof of that in tomorrows post. I need to start being a poll lackey or something, I have been nearly dead on going back to the November elections. I'm not bragging (ok maybe just a little) go back and look at my posts and predictions for the NJ/VA governors race.

Now some FML...

Today, I walked into a restaurant with my parents to celebrate my Mom's birthday. They immediately got a kid's menu and crayons out for me. I'm 15. FML

Today, I sent everyone a text on my phone book saying, "Happy Star Wars Day!!! May the Fourth be with you!!" I forgot to uncheck my exgirlfriend's number. She texted back, "one of the many reasons I broke up with you." FML

Today, I met my girlfriend's parents for the first time. We got on the discussion of animals, and I showed them a picture of my cat on my phone. Being a touchscreen, when her father grabbed it, it changed picture. To a picture of my girlfriend, fully nude. FML

Today, as I was running a cute guy was coming towards me. As he was passing me, he yelled "nice tush!" I said thanks and slapped my ass flirtatiously. He stopped running, laughed and pointed to my crotch, replying "No, I said nice BUSH" I looked down to see my shorts had rode up a bit too high. FML

Today, I got into my driving instructors car for my first lesson. He looked at me, then said, "I'm sorry, but I wasn't told about your disabilities, what do you have?" I'm not disabled. FML

Today, I was at the library. I went near the computer section when I saw this man cursing and pounding his fists on a computer. He left. I thought I'd check it out. As I sat down, a librarian came over with the security guard and pointed at me. I'm now being fined for destroying public property. FML

Today, while in the hot tub with my friends, my gum fell out of my mouth and I had no idea where it went. Later that night I realized it had fallen down my swimsuit and had become adhered to my pubic hairs which then stuck to my underwear. FML

Today, my boyfriend texted me saying, "I can come over today. She thinks I've got work." I think he had the wrong number. FML
day, is the day my husband was supposed to come home from a six month tour at sea. I heard the door bell ring. I sprinted to the door expecting to hold my honey bear, instead two uniformed sailors with a folded flag greeted me. I burst into tears. My husband walked up behind me. He laughed. FML

Today, I went to Ralph's to get bread and a snack. While paying, an 80 year old lady, in a walker, took my bag while I wasn't watching. That's right, I got jacked by an 80 year old in a walker. FML

Today, I got home from college. Since I haven't seen my parents in almost a year I sorta expected them to come meet me/pick me up at the airport. Nope. What did I get instead? A text from my dad saying, "I hope you have a key." FML\

Today, while biking I got into a major crash with two cars. The cars were parked. FML

Today, my dog started to hump my leg. He always does this and I heard that humping in the dog world meant dominance. Well, I decided to instill my dominance and I dry humped him back. As I was doing this I said "How do you like that!" and then my mom walked in. FML

Today, I had my high school reunion. The nerdy guy that I picked on all 4 years had married a Swedish supermodel, then divorced her for a Brazilian supermodel. My girlfriend works at 7-11. Karma sucks. FML

Today, I realized that my father's weekly unemployment check is more than my bi-weekly pay check. My full time job pays less than my father's unemployment. FML

Today, I went bowling. The guy at the lane next to us was bowling by himself and had a few of his own bowling balls, and he had one that looked like a yin-yang and it looked very cool spinning down the lane into the pins. Not really thinking, I casually said to him "Hey, I like your balls." FML

Today, while I was on my laptop, I decided to take a nap. Little did I know that my leg was covering up the cool air intake underneath the machine. I woke up an hour later with a first degree burn on my thigh. From a laptop. FML

Today, I was talking to this guy that I like a lot and I think he likes me back. When he told me I was beautiful I laughed so hard that I farted. Loudly. FML

Today, I was lying on the couch with my boyfriend and was feeling tired, so I got a soda. I sat back down and surprised him with a passionate kiss. I also surprised him when I suddenly burped right into his mouth. FML

Today, I was helping some mental health patients at work, I spent 20 mins to fail to connect the DVD player to the TV and went back to make them something to eat. I came back into the room after 5 mins and one of the patients had connected it for himself. He has a profound learning disability. FML

Today, I spent the whole day seeing how many licks it would take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop: 763. I'm 24. FML

Today, I went to the store to buy groceries. I didn't care how I looked, so I wore an old shirt that said, "Thousands of my potential children died on your daughter's face last night." I ran into my girlfriend's parents at the store. FML

Today, I thought it would be funny to bother my friend Emily. I kept punching her. She asked if I wanted to fight. I agreed because she's a 15 year old skinny girl and I'm 17 year old buff guy. She beat the crap out of me until I cried. FML

Today, none of my 500 Facebook friends responded to my status about "who wants to hang out during summer holidays?" I proceeded to create an imaginary person on a different account to respond and ask me to hang out with him. I had a conversation on my status, with myself. FML

Today, my girlfriend broke up with me. She told me that her father didn't approve of me and forced her out of the relationship. Her father died 2 years ago. FML

Today, me and my girlfriend went paintballing. I made sure we were on the same team, so I could protect her and be manly. The first time she got shot was by me, I shot her finger. It broke. FML

Today, my mother came up to me a swim meet and shouted to me in the bleachers "If you have to go potty, go now because there is a long line!". I'm seventeen. FML

Today, I went to see Terminator. Not wanting to spend an outrageous amount of money at the concession stand, I sneaked a Dr. Pepper into the theater. I thought I had gotten away with it, until I opened the bottle and it exploded all over me and four other people that I didn't know. FML

Today, I was preparing a dinner for some business associates, in hopes of closing the deal on a promotion. I emailed them with the menu, in case there were any allergies. Hours later, I checked the email again to find that instead of serving the Roast Duck I would be serving the Roast Fuck. FML

Today, I got a speeding ticket while driving to my court date for a prior speeding ticket. FML

Today, I was teaching my Chinese students spoken English when they got into a heated argument. When I finally got their attention, I told them to continue the argument in English. They were arguing over my bra size. They are all female teenagers. They then asked me to show them my bra. FML

Today, my most difficult task at work was three hole punching a 500 page document so somebody could put it in a binder on their shelf and not read it. I have a $150,000 education. FML

Today, I found some oversized-strawberry-spree candies in my pantry. They were delicious and I munched on them through out the day. I ended up in and out, but mostly in, the bathroom in the dead hours of the night experiencing the wonders and effectiveness of Fruit Flavored Fiber pills. FML

Today, my last task for the day as a high school janitor was to power-wash the concrete area where the graduation ceremony will take place. Tired and bored, I drew a huge penis with the power hose. Right before I was going to wash it off, the machine broke. Graduation is tomorrow. FML

Today, my kitten was playing with the drawstring on my pajama pants. He then jumped, clinging on to my crotch. I screamed in pain, which scared him and made him hold on tighter. My cat was literally hanging from my vagina with its claws for a good 30 seconds before I could pry him off. FML

Today, I seemingly misplaced my cell phone but didn't have time to look for it before work. This evening, my cell phone company calls me to tell me I have six hundred dollars worth of calls to El Salvador that I have to pay for. My cell phone was not misplaced, it was stolen. FML

Today, I did some math. Relaxing bubble bath soap:$17.00. Enough water to fill a bathtub: $10. Favorite tea: $4. Organic candle: $8. Looking out the window to see your 70+ year old male neighbor taking pictures of you lowering yourself into your bath: priceless. FML

Today, I went hiking at a park by my house with my camera to do some still life. On my way home I noticed some tree blossoms in someone's backyard and tried to take pictures of them over their fence. In minutes, I was approached and interrogated by cops because they thought I was a peeping tom. FML

Today, I saw that Pixar had put out a teaser trailer for Toy Story 3. I got so excited to watch it that had to go lay in bed for a few minutes in order to calm myself down. I'm 19 years old. FML

Today, I turned 30 years old. My dad, the only living relative I have, gave me a call. Not to wish me a happy birthday, but to tell me about "a hot piece of ass" he nailed at the senior center last night. FML

Today, I overheard my 5 year old daughter call a girl in her dance class a slut. Shocked, I asked her where she heard that word. Her response: "I heard you and Daddy say it about her Mommy." FML

MA-Senate seat is in play...

Wow, PPP (Public Policy Polling) has its own blog (on blogspot too) and they are showing some amazing numbers for the MA Senate race... from their blog

Because of the heavy interest we'll try to get our Massachusetts numbers out over the weekend. But because we've already conducted most of the interviews for it here are some of the major storylines we're seeing:

-At this point a plurality of those planning to turn out oppose the health care bill. The massive enthusiasm gap we saw in Virginia is playing itself out in Massachusetts as well. Republican voters are fired up and they're going to turn out. Martha Coakley needs to have a coherent message up on the air over the last ten days that her election is critical to health care passing and Ted Kennedy's legacy- right now Democrats in the state are not feeling a sense of urgency.

-Scott Brown's favorables are up around 60%, a product of his having had the airwaves to himself for the last week. By comparison Bob McDonnell's were at 55% right before his election and Chris Christie's were only at 43%. Coakley's campaign or outside groups need to tie Brown's image to national Republicans and knock him down a notch over the final week of the campaign.\

This has become a losable race for Democrats- but it could also be easily winnable if Coakley gets her act together for the last week of the campaign. Complacency is the Democrats' biggest enemy at this point and something that needs to be overcome to avoid a potential disaster.

This shows a trend...
On January 4th Hot Air reported this...

THE WEEKLY STANDARD has obtained the results of a private poll conducted last week by a reputable non-partisan firm. In that survey, Democratic Attorney General Martha Coakley led Republican state senator Scott Brown in the ballot test by 50% to 39%–not bad for Brown in a state Obama carried by 23 points. More interesting, perhaps, is that while Coakley’s favorable/unfavorable rating was 61% to 32%, Brown’s was 56% to 26%–in other words, they were virtually identical at +29/30. That suggests a potentially very competitive race: If Brown can make his case against another Democratic vote in the U.S. Senate, or against rewarding a member of unpopular governor Deval Patrick’s administration, some voters who currently prefer Coakley might be open to voting for Brown, since they view him favorably as well. THE WEEKLY STANDARD has also learned that an earlier poll, done in mid-December by another firm for another client, had similar results in the ballot test–but that the poll also found that the race tightened significantly, down to a low single digits margin for Coakley, among those judged most likely to vote. Furthermore, a careful analysis by Sean Trende shows, that if one assumes a swing against the Democrats like that in New Jersey and Virginia two months ago, the race could become very close.

The next day Rassmussen Reports showed the gap narrowing
Massachusetts Senate: Coakley 50%, Brown 41%
Note this is important because the poll on the 4th had Coakley up 50-39, this shows to me as a amatuer political scientist that Coakley's numbers have topped out and the independents are breaking to Brown. The 50% could be decivingly high though because even though RR polls likely voters that doesn't mean that democrats who might decide to normally show up just say, "fuck it" and stay home or even go radical and vote for Brown out of pure protest. Yes I think the climate is that bad for Democrats right now.
I hope to find out this weekend. Failblog/FML Friday post coming tonight.

The left is scared, so they insult us

I am going to joint post this over my other blog (twincitiesteaparty.blogspot.com) because its important. The movement and the way it operates can be summed up in one great Ghandi quote,
"First they ignore you, then they mock you, then they fight you, then you win."
First step, remember back in January when Obama shoved the "stimulus" package through Congress? People started getting pissed. Rick Santelli had his famous speech down on the Chicago floor. The tea party movement was born. Yawn, MSLM didn't notice. Then came April 15th. The idiot liberals couldn't believe what was happening. Conservatives went out and protested for the first time EVER. I was out in front of the capital as a "security guard" and we expected maybe 2-3000 people. 7-8000 showed so what did the MSM do then? They called us teabaggers and made relentless sexual puns that were insulting and frankly not even that funny. Now they have moved past that because they are really scared, they thought we would go away and April 15th was a fluke and a one time thing. Nope, so now they are calling us racist and even sicking SEIU thugs on people who do something as radical as exercise their 1st amendment rights. God forbid. So we are on stage 3 of Ghandi's quote, guess what? Were going to win now, and hopefully this will start with Mike Brown winning the special election on Jan 19th to give us 41 Senate votes and end any hope of getting Obamacare passed. Here is an in detail article from BigGovernment.com

We live in seriously challenging times – times that warrant serious conversations on the state and direction of our nation. From the fiscal crash course our nation is on to the ever-present threat we face from Islamic terrorism, there’s plenty of fodder for constructive political discourse. Many on the Left, however, are bent on marginalizing opposing views by any means necessary. The censorship and number fudging exposed in ClimateGate is one recent example.
The tea party movement seems to perpetually be in the crosshairs of the Left’s most insidious propaganda artists. A post on taxpayer subsidized NPR’s blog that’s getting some attention this week features a video by Mark Fiore entitled “Learn to Speak Tea Bag.” The cartoon gives mock step-by-step instructions on what Fiore believes is the modus operandi of tea party activists. Fiore unintentionally serves up a nearly all-inclusive package on all that is dishonest and malicious about the Left’s continued campaign to discredit this wildly popular grassroots force.
Fiore’s isn’t the first and likely won’t be the last tea party hit job. Everyone from the President to “mainstream” media commentators have joined in since the movement’s inception in February 2009. This multifaceted attack on the tea party movement has revealed an interesting trend that mirrors the evolving tactics of a maladjusted, intellectual deficient schoolboy bully.
Kindergarten: Don’t like what someone has to say? Call them stupid! A central theme of Fiore’s video is that those that make up the movement are uneducated. I’ve collectively seen hundreds of thousands of attendees at the various tea party events I’ve been to. While degrees aren’t required for admittance, I think it is safe to say that there are a few smart folks in this large, popular movement. Furthermore, how Fiore and others can simultaneously deride the movement as dumb yet high-tech GOP “Astroturf” is beyond me. While Fiore mockingly encourages viewers to “learn to speak tea bag,” he could use some lessons on the English language. His presumably self-penned biography contains a glaring redundancy: “[Fiore]…creates political animation from an undisclosed location somewhere in San Francisco.” [Emphasis added] As Michelle Malkin recently wrote, obscure cartoonists like Fiore aren’t the only ones trying to tally IQs. In a piece that reads at best as a backhanded compliment to the movement’s influence, David Brooks of the New York Times recently juxtaposed the tea party movement with…Democrats? No! He contrasted them with the educated class. Ah! The Left’s agenda is not only inherently progressive, but intellectually informed and fact based!
High School: When the pesky protestors just won’t go away, make a sex joke and call them gay! Fiore invokes “tea bag,” a reference to “teabagging,” a sexual act invoked to mock the tea party movement – an implicitly homoerotic joke. This is a staple in the Left’s anti-tea party propaganda campaign lexicon. (See other slurs from Anderson Cooper, Rachel Maddow, and Keith Olbermann, to name a few.)
College: If simple name calling just won’t work, it’s time to break out the big guns – something politically charged and completely unfounded that just sucks the air out of the room. Drop the racism card! This is a very common (and very effective) tactic invoked by intellectually frustrated leftist students, aging hippy professors, and university administrators on campuses across the country. Chris Matthews isn’t the first to invoke it, but he recently revived this move in a double whammy sexual/racist slur.
Graduate School: When the racist card gets old, it’s time to get to undermine the foundation of the issue at hand. Fudge the facts! Fiore isn’t the only one guilty of this of course, but his video has one real whopper. In it, he implies that tea party activists are being dishonest about the health care debate because many Republicans have received money from health care industries. This is a great trick. For one, it implies a necessary link between the movement and the GOP – a fallacy. While the principles of the tea party movement – fiscal conservatism, individual responsibility, limited government – are more often than not going to be advanced by the Republican Party, there is no intrinsic link. For example, at the event I ran on tax day 2009 in Chicago, Michael Steele was publicly turned down as a speaker. (Not surprisingly, this received little press coverage and certainly wasn’t weighed as hard evidence of the movement’s nonpartisanship.)
Nor is there a responsibility of all tea party activists to answer for the political contributions of a handful of Republicans. It is, of course, fair game to dig into the political contributions of politicians opposing and pushing ObamaCare. Sure, many Republicans have and will continue to receive money from “special interest groups” including those related to the health care industry.
So do Democrats, though. In fact, Barack Obama received more money from health industry lobbyists than any presidential candidate in history. Not only did he receive more than his opponent John McCain, but more than George W. Bush in both of his campaigns combined.
Does this impact President Obama’s allies’ votes or closed-door House-Senate reconciliation for a final ObamaCare bill? How about the President’s policy stances? What about his decision to renege on his promise to televise health care debates and to instead hold closed-door meetings with these very same special interests in the West Wing? (For more “odd alliances” exposed, see my review of Tim Carney’s Obamanomics.)
Dropout: When none of these more “cerebral” attempts work, many on the Left drop the attempt at any semblance of reasonable discourse and turn to threats. Tea party activists regularly receive threatening emails and phone calls. Others are at the receiving end of actual violence. Take Kenneth Gladney, who had racial slurs, fists, and feet hurled upon him by SEIU thugs at a tea party protest.
While these transparent attempts to undermine this movement are frustrating, I encourage my tea party compatriots to take heart and stick to the high road. These superficial tactics and inaccurate claims will lose their effectiveness in the long-run. As with the bullies you may have encountered in the buses and hallways of your school years, these attacks reveal deep emotional and intellectual voids in the hearts and minds of those that perpetrate them. Finally, if your mere involvement in the political process is triggering this much vitriol from politicians and members of the media big and small, you’ve got to be doing something right.

I will be adding BigGovernment and other Breitbart sites to my link ASAP.

Could a Republican win Ted Kennedy's Senate Seat?

For those of you who don't know, there is a BIG special election in MA on I believe the 19th this month to decide who is Ted Kennedy's replacement for the rest of his term. Normally in a neutral environment Republicans would seriously be lucky to get 35% of the vote in an election like this. I mean I've read that the official party registration in the state is D-41%, R-17%, and I think I-35%. I'd have to look it up but I believe that MA hasn't had a Republican Senator since 1972, or earlier. This is from the Boston Herald (link in title)

“I haven’t been to the U.S. Senate, so. . . I’m learning about how it works.” - Martha Coakley on WTKK-FM yesterday.

Massachusetts, haven’t we made enough “history?”

In 2006 we cast an “historic” vote for Deval Patrick. What did we get? The highest unemployment in 20 years, $1.5 billion a year in new taxes and taxpayer-subsidized green jobs outsourced to China.

In 2008 we cast an “historic” vote for Barack Obama. What did we get? A trillion-dollar “stimulus” that left us with 2.5 million fewer jobs; a health-care fiasco that will cost $2 trillion more and a would-be Undie-bomber consulting with his attorney in Detroit.

Now it’s 2010, and Martha “as the only woman in the race” Coakley wants us to trust her with on-the-job training. Do we really need that deja vu all over again?

Perhaps not. The Rasmussen poll giving Coakley a narrow 9-point lead shows that even uber-liberal Massachusetts can only take so much.

The poll also shows that Scott Brown supporters are far more motivated than Coakley’s - and that was before yesterday’s debate.

On question after question, Coakley offered every possible response save one: an answer.

Does she support the billion-dollar bribery offered to senators for their votes on ObamaCare? Her answer: “There’s been horse trading.”

OK, but does she think that’s good or bad? “I agree people are questioning the process.”

Yes, Martha, people are. But what about you? No answer.

Does she support profiling airline passengers in the wake of the Jock-Strap Jihadist case? “We’ve increased profiling to everyone who flies an airplane.”

But a profile that includes everyone is - obviously - not a profile. It’s just a passenger list. Does she favor real profiling that would include a Nigerian Muslim with no luggage and a cash ticket?

Again, no answer.

Does she support trying Osama bin Laden as an unlawful combatant instead of treating him like the Undie-bomber and lawyering him up? “He will be tried in the military tribunal system,” Coakley said on WTKK.

Finally, a straight answer . . . but wait!

“I assume he won’t be landing on a plane in Detroit,” Coakley said. “If he is captured as an enemy combatant, then he will tried” by a tribunal.

Get that - if.

Coakley’s anti-terrorism strategy comes from the real estate industry: location, location, location. Terrorists who are cooperative enough to get caught in Afghanistan may (or may not) be handled by the military. But if the Islamist’s lingerie doesn’t explode until he gets over sovereign U.S. soil, he gets a lawyer and the right to remain silent on future attacks.

Osama bin Laden, book your flight now!

Listening to Coakley play debate dodgeball, one could hear Nixonian echoes: What does she not know, and how long has she not known it?

When asked about the burden of the $2 trillion Obama cap-and-trade plan she supports, she claimed she didn’t know where that figure came from. (Answer: the White House, as reported in many media outlets.)

When asked about ObamaCare’s costs, again she demurred. We don’t really know what it’s going to cost, she admitted, but we ought to do it anyway.

If you’ve had enough of Washington liberals’ “do it anyway” agenda, a defeat for Martha - or even a narrow victory - in deep-blue Massachusetts would be felt in every Democratic swing district across Obama’s 57 states.

Yep thats the Boston Herald people. This article is as surprising as if the Red Star did a hit piece on a major DFL contender. This just doesn't happen. I think what's most striking is the first paragraph.
“I haven’t been to the U.S. Senate, so. . . I’m learning about how it works.” Oh joy. The Rasmussen numbers are surprising, despite what DailyKos tries to bitch about Rasmussen is the MOST reliable polling, with the possible exception of fivethirtyeight.com. Tomorrow (well later today) I will analyze the polls that are out there. Of course the most important one will be right before the election. Oh and in case you forget if Scott Brown (please donate, shameless plug I know, link to his campaign site embedded in his name) wins, he's vote #41, bye-bye fillerbuster proof majority :)

Theory Of A Deadman - Bad Girlfriend [Explicit] Music video of the week...

NSFW by the way, I actually have come to love these guys over the past year. With the content of their songs they could easily be mistaken for Motley Crue but those guys don't have anywhere near the talent this band does. Its time my blog started living up to its name more and I'll be posting more videos that I like as I come across them.

: Political Shifty : Foamy The Squirrel

Its things like this foamy rant that make me question my deep involvement in politics. I guess I'm not as cynical as he is, but I'd have to say he is right about 90-95% politicians. I just try to work for the 5-10% of decent ones that are out there

The top 10 sports moments of the 2000's

note: Over the next days and weeks I will be doing top 10 lists of the 2000's on a variety of topics, this is only volume one

As chosen by me, 100% un-scientific, done mostly by rank of how emotionally affected/involved I was in the event or moment. All of these things I saw live unless otherwise noted.

#10 Randy Johnson Kills a bird...
Before the 2001 season started (When the D-Backs won an amazing World Series by the way) Randy Johnson had an unusual, some would say hilarious/sad/amazing, happening in a spring training outing. He killed a bird, with one of his 95+MPH fastballs. In case you forgot here's the video

#9 Delmon Young Throws Bat at Ump
Back in 2006 Delmon Young was still a hot prospect for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays who was languishing in AAA for his impatience and well-known temper. That temper earned him national headlines, for the wrong reasons, after this infamous incident that earned him a record 50 game suspension from the team. It seemed to work though, because he is now an everyday starter for my Twins.

#8 Zidane Head-Butt in 2006 World Cup Final
Put into the category of shit-you-cannot-make-up Zidane headbutted an Italian player after he apparently said something insulting about Zidane's sister or mom. This earned him an immediate red card (ejection) and probably cost France the World Cup. To make it worse it occured in not only the World Cup Final, but in extra-time (overtime) right before the shootout. To put some context in for non-soccer fans its about the equivalent of punching someone in game 7 of overtime in an NBA Final or overtime in the Super Bowl and getting ejected. The only reason this isn't higher on the list is because, well, its soccer.

#7 The infamous "tuck-call"/ Adam Vinetari's game-winning OT field goal in last game at Old Foxboro stadium in the "Snow Bowl"
Back in the 2002 playoffs no one really thought the Patriots had much of a shot. I mean they had this 6th round draft pick kid from Michigan named Tom... Bradley? Brady? who replaced Drew Beldsoe who went down in week 3 with a bad knee injury. It was one of the most amazing things I had ever seen. It was a freaking snowstorm out and if it wasn't for that call the Patriots wouldn't have gone on to win the super bowl that year and may have never been the dynasty that they were this decade.

#6 Adam Vinetari's game-winning FG in Super Bowl XXXVI
This was amazing, not because I finally got a upset pick right (I made it known at school I thought the Pats would win) but because almost no one, and I mean no one, picked the Patriots to win. The Rams aka "The Greatest Show on Turf" won the SB two years prior and were poised to cement themselves as a dynasty. But the pesky Patriots refused to quit. I thought they were the team of destiny after what happened earlier in the playoffs (see above) but what they did to start off the Super Bowl was amazing. Normally there would be individual player introductions to start off the games. But not for the Patriots, being the ultimate in team first attitude they rushed on to the field as a group. No team has done individual player introductions since.

#5 Vince Young's 4th and 5 run to win the 2006 National Championship against USC in the Rose Bowl.
Once again this was an amazing feat that I picked when almost no one gave Texas a chance against the 2 time defending champions who hadn't lost a game in nearly 3 years. An amazing streak that while not a record in college football, will not be approached again anytime soon, probably.

#4 Music City Miracle
Simply amazing, just simply amazing. Some people are still pissed about it to this day. It only happened 1-2 weeks into the decade but will live on in sports and NFL lore.

#3 Boise State's Statue of Liberty play to win 2007 Fiesta Bowl (and the hook and lateral, and the halfback pass)
Boise State won the 2007 Fiesta Bowl against all odds, Oklahoma was supposed to go out and CRUSH them. Well, before the Sooners could get their chinstraps on they were down 14-0 and 21-10. Oklahoma came back of course and Boise State's magic appeared to be out when they had a 4th and 15 at midfield with a little under a minute to go. Then they go freaking backyard football and run a perfect hook and lateral that ties the game. Then on 4th and 2 at the 7 yard line, down 42-35 in OT they do a halfback pass and it works (barely). They say screw it and decide to go for the win pulling off the Statue of Liberty play perfectly, and to cap it off the RB who went in for the game winning score proposes to his long time girlfriend on national TV. She says yes and the game becomes an even BIGGER story.

#2 David Ortiz game 4 ALCS walk-off home run
Not big when it first happened, I mean Boston was still down 3-1 and had to win 2 games in Yankee Stadium if they hoped to do the impossible. Alas they did, breaking the 86 year old Bambino Curse and in the process being the first MLB team EVER to come back from an 0-3 hole. I remember saying that the Sox would win after seeing that walk-off home run but even I thought I was crazy. I mean the Yankees wouldn't be the first team to ever blow a 3-0 lead and besides it was a fluke right? Nope...

#1 David Tyree helps end the Patriots perfect season...
This could be the most amazing catch in NFL history. I wanted to see the big bad Pats go undefeated because I had been a fan of them since late in the 2001 season and I felt I had earned the right to root for the favorite for one of the first times in my life. Then fricken David Tyree comes up and squashes the Patiots dream like he did with the football on the side of his helmet.

What will the 2010's bring? Will I do this again in 10 years? (doubtful) Stay tuned folks!

Holy SHIT! AMAZING LIGHT DISPLAY

doing my weekly YouTube rounds I decided to look up "Wizards in WInter" done by the Trans Siberian Orchestra, which is becoming a favorite group of mine because they are so different. Apparently this was a coordinated neighborhood effort. I'd explain further but I'll let them do it. This is from their YouTube post explaining how this amazing display came to be.

During these economy time, the street of Bainbridge Cir, Murrieta Ca thought we would do something to put a smile on peoples faces. So the block decided to do something different this year for Christmas, we synchronized all 12 houses to music. It came out very impressive and it is a must see as the video does not do it justice. This was a team effort with the entire neighborhood getting involved. It started back in May with a simple discussion on what it would take. Next thing we know it was done. It has really brought the entire neighborhood together. You have to see it to believe it. Check out the YouTube Video

30000 plus lights
130 extension cords
Over 8000 feet of control cable
Programming time: dont ask.

Side Note: Most of the neighborhood uses LED lights this year, so for those concerned we are wasting massive amounts of electricity, we are actually using 1/10th of the power as last year.

Have a Merry Christmas.

Damn, wish I lived close to them.

Happy new years

Well it's 2010. Hard to believe ain't it. What a crazy, insane, and amazing decade the 2000's were. It holds a somewhat special place in my heart because being only 23 the 2000's are the first decade I remember from beginning (Y2K anyone?) to the end (at a friends house party semi-smashed after the fucking Gophers fucking lose to fucking Iowa State in a lame ass bowl game, yes I mark occasions by relating them to sporting events bite me). What a time to come of age in. Being a proud millenial (thats what my generation is called, geez even the spell check doesn't recognize the word, yet) I can't wait to take the world by storm (and still continue to update this blog) in the coming decade and decades to come. The thought that my generation will be in charge in about 15-20 years is amazing in one part, and really scary in another. I'll talk more about that this year. Because I really do fear my generation might not be up to the task. I will try to update the blog almost daily, or at least 5 times a week, for the next year. And try to finish my damn manuscript (thats why I took most of 2008 off from this current blog). Later peoples

Rush limbaugh in hospital, left shows its class

You know how we on the right are always accused of "hate-speech" and being intolerant to other views while the left says they are open-minded and tolerant? Yeah... these are comments directly from DailyKos.com Rush Limbaugh's thread. Note I haven't edited a damn thing, don't believe me? Look at the fucking link yourself...

weird that Republicans have been seething at Obama's vacation spot, even though he was born there, when Limbaugh was also there. Karma is something. What a way to point out their hypocrisy because we all know the media would not have touched on that point if he hadn't taken ill.

do they make a coffin big enough ?
too soon ???..........

Couldn't have happened to a nicer person!
good luck with that you fat bastard!

no tears will be shed here.

We see this repeatedly on DK when right-wingers pass away (evil Tony Snow, anyone, who helped lie us into a godforsaken and illegal war?).

So if Adolf Hitler were to die today would we see a bunch of RIP diaries and "our heart should go out to his friends and family"?

There are in fact evil, despicable people out there. When and only when we've mourned the passing (or consoled with the misfortunes) of, e.g. all the innocent Iraqi victims of this war -- after I see those 500,000 diaries or so, then we can start thinking about horrid evil dishonest hypocrite greedy pond scum like Rush.

I have occasion to work in hospitals and I assure you there are far more worthy people to worry about than Limbaugh, whose ill-gotten gains no doubt get him the finest and most expensive health care.

I'm just happy that millions will suffer less because his racist, hateful voice won't be inspiring white supremacists to hate on minorities while he recovers.

and thats just scratching the surface

Storm update #3 (28 hours of consecutive snowfall, and still counting...)

This is insane, were still forecasted to have about another full day of snow and we are right at, or slightly above the one foot mark. I'm trying to get the pics upoaded but its not working, stupid laptop, so they will be up sometime later today. Merry Christmas everyone!

Storm update #2 (19 hours of straight snow and counting...)

Well, my parents are back from 4pm mass over at OLG and I went out to check on the storm and even though the NWS (National Weather Service) in Chanhassen says Edina has 6'of snow we have about 9 in our neighborhood. I even have some cool pics (one with a ruler in the snow) to show you in my next update, which will probably happen sometime tonight before I go to bed. We still have another day (or possibly 2) of snow to go and were already approaching 10 inches here. Merry Christmas indeed.

Storm update #1 (3+ hours of consecutive snow, and counting...)

Well this is going to be a "weather blog" for the next few days, as it stands right now the snow started falling around 9pm CST and shows no signs of letting up, for the next day. People are saying this storm could bring 18-20 inches of snow, as of now there are exactly 2 inches in my driveway in Edina. This is freaking heavy, wet snow. It doesn't look like I'm leaving the house for the next 48 hours... oh joy.

The Offspring - You're Gonna Go Far, Kid

I don't know why but ever since I first heard this song on the radio I have always pictured it being about Obama, first as a candidate now as President (the song was released in early 2008). Just listen to the lyrics and see if you don't think it's about Obama, I swear it is to an extent.

More bad news for Democrats...

One of the reasons 1994 was such a good year for Republicans was because of so many long-time safe seat (but still swing district) Democrats retiring. Now the fourth Democrat in 4 weeks has announced his retirement. Look for this to become an upcoming trend. from RealClearPolitics.com...

Now the fourth Democrat to announce his retirement in four weeks, Rep. Bart Gordon (D-Tenn.) said this morning in a released statement that he will not run for re-election next year.

Gordon, a moderate Democrat from a Republican-leaning district, follows three other Democratic congressmen in similar political situations -- Brian Baird (WA-3), John Tanner (TN-8), and Dennis Moore (KS-3). President Obama won Moore and Baird's districts in 2008, but both were also won by President Bush in 2004.

"Turning 60 has led me to re-evaluate what's next," Gordon said in a statement. "I have an 8-year-old daughter and a wonderful wife who has a very demanding job. I am the only child of my 83-year-old mother, Margaret. They have made sacrifices to allow me to do what I love by serving in Congress, and now it's my turn."

Originally elected in 1984, Gordon has regularly been re-elected with more than 60 percent of the vote -- including every election this decade. He is chairman of the Science and Technology Committee. According to National Journal, his voting record places him near the middle of the House.

Tennessee's Sixth District is V-shaped and located in the middle of the state. John McCain won the district with 62 percent in 2008, and Bush won 60 percent four years earlier.

"When I was elected, I was the youngest member of the Tennessee congressional delegation; now, I'm one of the oldest," said Gordon. "In fact, I have members of my staff who weren't even born when I took office. That tells me it's time for a new chapter."

The run of retirements of Democrats in swing districts is a clear sign to Republicans that 2010 is going to be a good year -- one in which the party, down and out in the last two congressional elections, will at least cut into the Democrats' strong hold on Congress.

"It’s official: Democrats now have a retirement problem," said NRCC spokesman Ken Spain. "After being forced to toe the line for Nancy Pelosi’s reckless agenda too many times, Blue Dog Democrats would rather roll over and retire than face the political headwind that is barreling toward them. This is evidence of the fact that the Obama-Pelosi agenda of government takeovers, permanent bailouts, and fewer jobs is taking a political and mental toll even on incumbent Democrats who were once-perceived to be firmly entrenched."
I can't wait for 2010.

They make it too easy sometimes...

The left/enviroweenies officially go Totalitarian

Remember when you could say that one-child policies are insane and could never happen here. Simple math and logic would dictate that in order for a population/country to continue to exist the birthrate would need to be at 2.1 (ok maybe technically 2 or 2.01). If one child is born per couple on a regular basis your country will die, literally, in a generation. None of that seems to matter to the "Environmentalists". From a news outlet in China...

Population and climate change are intertwined but the population issue has remained a blind spot when countries discuss ways to mitigate climate change and slow down global warming, according to Zhao Baige, vice-minister of National Population and Family Planning Commission of China (NPFPC)(hey sounds like something Obama might put in place in the future).
"Dealing with climate change is not simply an issue of CO2 emission reduction but a comprehensive challenge involving political, economic, social, cultural and ecological issues, and the population concern fits right into the picture," said Zhao, who is a member of the Chinese government delegation.Um, can you say CREEPY AS HELL!! ok so we need to reduce our population because were killing the planet?! How about you talk to the third world countries about that because last time I checked every devloped nation has a birthrate BELOW REPLACEMENT (read above) levels except for one country. You know which one that is? It's us, the USA. And were BARELY above it at 2.1. If it wasn't for all the immigration we have and mexicans spitting out babies up here you could probably knock that rate down to 1.6-1.8. It continues below
Many studies link population growth with emissions and the effect of climate change.
"Calculations of the contribution of population growth to emissions growth globally produce a consistent finding that most of past population growth has been responsible for between 40 per cent and 60 percent of emissions growth," so stated by the 2009 State of World Population, released earlier by the UN Population Fund.

Yeah, I'm so sure those numbers are legit. Because we all know that the data they use is so pure and not tinkered with at all...
Although China's family planning policy has received criticism over the past three decades(and rightly so, it will cost them dearly when all those chinese men decide to try to overthrow that government because they can't get laid), Zhao said that China's population program has made a great historic contribution to the well-being of society.
As a result of the family planning policy, China has seen 400 million fewer births, which has resulted in 18 million fewer tons of CO2 emissions a year, Zhao said.
God, imagine if China had 1.7 billion people now? They would have already passed us and probably own all of Asia and Europe.
The UN report projected that if the global population would remain 8 billion by the year 2050 instead of a little more than 9 billion according to medium-growth scenario, "it might result in 1 billion to 2 billion fewer tons of carbon emissions".
Meanwhile, she said studies have also shown that family planning programs are more efficient in helping cut emissions, citing research by Thomas Wire of London School of Economics that states: "Each $7 spent on basic family planning would reduce CO2 emissions by more than one ton" whereas it would cost $13 for reduced deforestation, $24 to use wind technology, $51 for solar power, $93 for introducing hybrid cars and $131 electric vehicles.
Using economics to justify eugenics? Didn't that not work so well the first time it was tried?
She admitted that China's population program is not without consequences, as the country is entering the aging society fast and facing the problem of gender imbalance.
Duh, you think there genius?! read my above statement.
"I'm not saying that what we have done is 100 percent right, but I'm sure we are going in the right direction and now 1.3 billion people have benefited," she said. She said some 85 percent of the Chinese women in reproductive age use contraceptives, the highest rate in the world. This has been achieved largely through education and improvement of people's lives, she said.
This holistic approach that integrates policy on population and development, a strategy promoting sustainable development of population, resources and environment should serve as a model for integrating population programs into the framework of climate change adaptation, she said.

wow, just wow. And they aren't the only ones saying it. Our idiot neighbors to the north have some wackos too... From the Financial Post (Canada)
The "inconvenient truth" overhanging the UN's Copenhagen conference is not that the climate is warming or cooling, but that humans are overpopulating the world.
I got an idea honey, how about you start with doing the planet a favor and offing yourself? Seriously you nutters say humans are the problem? Ok fine, then don't be hypocrites and end your lives.
A planetary law, such as China's one-child policy, is the only way to reverse the disastrous global birthrate currently, which is one million births every four days.
God forbid... I am really disturbed that people think this is a problem. By the way as a contrast how many people die every 4 days?
The world's other species, vegetation, resources, oceans, arable land, water supplies and atmosphere are being destroyed and pushed out of existence as a result of humanity's soaring reproduction rate.
... you do realize that most of that is in the developing world you crazy bitch. The US is doing a much better job than it was even 20 years ago.
Ironically, China, despite its dirty coal plants, is the world's leader in terms of fashioning policy to combat environmental degradation, thanks to its one-child-only edict.
I don't know what to say to that
The intelligence behind this is the following:
-If only one child per female was born as of now, the world's population would drop from its current 6.5 billion to 5.5 billion by 2050, according to a study done for scientific academy Vienna Institute of Demography.

That's NOT A GOOD THING YOU CRAZY BITCH. Someone needs to commit you. I'm bi-polar, I can spot teh crazee when I see it (props to Mitch at SiTD for inventing that line).
-By 2075, there would be 3.43 billion humans on the planet. This would have immediate positive effects on the world's forests, other species, the oceans, atmospheric quality and living standards.

... that's just idiotic
-Doing nothing, by contrast, will result in an unsustainable population of nine billion by 2050.

According to who? Does the word technology not mean anything to you?
Humans are the only rational animals but have yet to prove it. Medical and other scientific advances have benefited by delivering lower infant mortality rates as well as longevity. Both are welcome, (good points) but (here comes the but) humankind has not yet recalibrated its behavior to account for the fact that the world can only accommodate so many people, especially if billions get indoor plumbing and cars.
Once again according to who. My head is about to explode.
The fix is simple. It's dramatic. And yet the world's leaders don't even have this on their agenda in Copenhagen. Instead there will be photo ops, posturing, optics, blah-blah-blah about climate science and climate fraud, announcements of giant wind farms, then cap-and-trade subsidies.Apparently this crazy bitch likes Margaret Sanger (look her up)
None will work unless a China one-child policy is imposed. Unfortunately, there are powerful opponents. Leaders of the world's big fundamentalist religions preach in favor of procreation and fiercely oppose birth control. And most political leaders in emerging economies perpetuate a disastrous Catch-22: Many children (i. e. sons) stave off hardship in the absence of a social safety net or economic development, which, in turn, prevents protections or development.
Yeah, she doesn't factor a lot of that into here. She just hates humanity
China has proven that birth restriction is smart policy. Its middle class grows, all its citizens have housing, health care, education and food, and the one out of five human beings who live there are not overpopulating the planet.
Talk to them in 2025, see if they still feel the same way...For those who balk at the notion that governments should control family sizes, just wait until the growing human population turns twice as much pastureland into desert as is now the case, or when the Amazon is gone, the elephants disappear for good and wars erupt over water, scarce resources and spatial needs. The point is that Copenhagen's talking points are beside the point. The only fix is if all countries drastically reduce their populations, clean up their messes and impose mandatory conservation measures.
Here are some birthrates of "Western powers". The only one that comes close is France at 1.98 (fyi, numbers are taken from cia.gov

Yeah most are third world shitholes but some are rising up. The Afghanistan number shocked me. Dang, if they can get their act together they could be a world power by the end of a century.
For all those who think population control is a good idea, tell me how you would feel if you country descended into anarchy. And for those of you who finally made it to the end of the article here's Foamy going on about this (in similar style to me)

now some FML...
Today, I had a softball team dinner, and I was sitting with a bunch of girls who were talking about how far they've gone with guys. One girl goes "I must be the least experienced one here, I've never even kissed a guy!" Surprised, I said "me too!" and high-fived her. She was joking. I wasn't. FML

Today, on my flight to Vegas, I was wishing that a really cute guy would come sit in the seat next to mine. A few minutes later, a really cute guy sat in the seat next to me and even started to talk to me. When I said, "I like rugged men." he said "Oh ya, me too! I really like buff guys also." FML

Today, my theatre teacher made me go on stage even though I had a violent stomach flu. My understudies were unreachable, and she threatened to fail me if I did not perform. Halfway through the first act, I vomited on the first row. She failed me for letting the cast down. FML

Today, I was ringing up a lady and her daughter at the shoe store I work at. The background on my nametag is a rainbow, and when the daughter saw it, she asked her mother why it was so. Her mother looks at my nametag, then me, then turns to her daughter and says "Because he hates God honey". FML

Today, my parents yelled at me for 10 minutes without letting me get a word in edgewise for getting a 48 on my test. They took my phone, unplugged my internet, and took my car keys. They wouldn't listen no matter how many times I told them "It was out of 50". It actually was. FML

Today, I was going on a dinner date with a girl I had just met. After I picked her up I asked her if she would like to get lobster. She looked at me and asked if those were the red ones. Confused I nodded. She replied, "Sorry, I don't eat red meat." I laughed. She was serious. FML

Today, I was at IKEA with my parents. I walked away from them and later I heard the speaker of the store call my name asking me to come to the playground because my mom and dad were worried. I'm 18. FML

Today, I had to give a speech on abstinence to a bunch of teenage boys, and surprisingly they were paying attention. After they left, I went to the bathroom and saw I had missed a few buttons on my blouse. The boys had a close up view of my cleavage for 3 hours. FML

Today, I went on a date with this girl I met online. The conversation drifted and we were talking about how we would 'go'. I said, "I want to skydive over the ocean without a parachute." She said she wants to be made into a wallet. FML

Today, I was walking slowly and awkwardly down the stairs on my crutches. After two steps, a screw fell out of the left crutch and it collapsed. I now have a broken arm from trying to protect my broken leg as I tumbled down two flights of stairs. FML

Today, my boyfriend broke up with me because apparently I need to "grow up". He is the one who plays excesive Call of Duty and still has Pokemon and Bionicles in his room. FML

Today, we had a school assembly at 7:00pm about drinking and driving. There was a cop doing a demonstration of a feild sobriety test on stage. I was randomly selected to perform a breathalyzer test infront of all the students and parents. I blew. 06%. FML

Today, I was on a flight from Chicago to Minneapolis. A rather attractive young lady sitting next to me fell asleep at the beginning of the flight. About 40 minutes into the flight i noticed my fly was open. The lady woke to me with my hands in my crotch struggling to zip up my fly. FML

Today, I was at the beach walking on the boardwalk without a shirt on. Two cute girls are walking my way and I decide to try and impress them by flexing my abs. While I flexed them, I accidentally let a fart out that everyone heard. Everybody, including the girls, laughed hysterically at me. FML

Today, I was at a gay bar and asking a really convincing drag queen about her daily routine. I asked how she tucked her penis in. She responded, "Um, I'm a woman." I said, "Oh I'm sorry, are you pre-op or post-op?" She said, "No, I always have been and always will be a woman, asshole." FML

Today, I bought a new purple shirt and decided to wear it to this charity function I was going to. I thought I looked pretty good in it. Then I got home and realized I left the sticker on. I had an "XL" sticker on my boob all night. FML

Today, I was having a horrible day. I was laying on the couch, crying, when my dog came up on the couch to console me. I was thinking about how great it was to have a dog, because they're there for you when no one else is. As I was sobbing, I heard something. My dog farted into my mouth. Twice. FML

Today, my good friend who just had a baby girl sent her newborn's pictures to me via picture message. To reply, instead of writing "Awwwwww" I wrote "Ewwwwww" by mistake. FML

Today, I had to return a shirt to Target. My mom offered to do it for me on her way to work, so I gave her the shirt and receipt. Later, I realized that on the same receipt I had purchased condoms, lube, and whipped cream. FML

Today, I was out shopping for bras. While in one store, I couldn't seem to find any in my size. When I asked an employee for help, they took one look at my chest and said "Mabye you should try our girls section, we have a lot of training bras." I'm 25. FML

Today, I was the first one to wear the ugly corporate shirts we received. The people in my office-all of them guys were all saying that it looked a lot better than they thought it would. Later that day I went to the toilet and saw the shirt gapes open in front and you could see my boobs. FML

Today, I put my AIM status on my Current iTunes song. It also does it for videos I don't know. I've downloaded a lot of porn in my iTunes, and I wanted to watch. My status on AIM was "Girl in Latex gets fucked in the ass." FML

Today, the director of the play I'm in decided to explain why we got the parts we did. He said he tried matching our characters to who we actually are. I play a whore who's a transvestite. FML

Today, I work at a Subway Sandwich store right next to a big hospital. There was a big line of people all getting their subs toasted. Without turning around, I ask the next person in line "I bet you want yours extra toasted?" She was a burns victim from the hospital. FML

oday, I walked into the confession booth for the 1st time and start to tell my sins. I mentioned how I had sex with multiple men over the last month. I began to continue telling my sins, until I heard laughter. It turned out my brother was playing hid and seek. FML

Today, I was sent to an elementary school for safety day. One of the dads was asking about my job, when I told him about the long hours and high stress involved. He turned to his son and said "Now see why you stay in school?" I'm a paramedic. With a bachelor's degree. FML

Today, I went to a friend's sweet sixteen. Since I didn't know any else at the party I was really happy when the mother told me she sat me next to someone she thought I would have a lot in common with. He ended up being mentally challenged and talked to a sock puppet the whole party. FML

Today, for the first time ever, a woman saw my penis. I am 30 years old. The woman was my doctor. She snorted to cover a laugh and apologized. FML

Today, brand new cocktail dress: $300. Matching peep toe heels: $100. Getting my hair done at the salon: $80. Treating myself to a mani/pedi: $50. When finally meeting the guy I have been chatting online with for 2 months, I find out hes my cousin: priceless. FML

Today, I saw an old Caucasian lady drop her purse. Out of kind intention, I ran to pick it up for her. She hit me with a wooden cane she was holding in her right hand. Multiple times. I gave her the purse back. She hit me again and said "Fuck You Yellow Rat," before she walked off. I'm Asian. FML

Today, I asked my girl friend of a year and a half to give me a blow job. She replied okay and bent down and proceeded to blow on my penis. Then she looked up at me and said was that good. She was serious. FML

Today, one of our regular customers came in and was telling me he bought an assault rifle. I told him not to go off his meds and shoot up the store, as a joke. Later, my manager told me that the guy is on antidepressants and was discharged from the military for being "mentally unfit." FML

Today, for Easter my brother & sister both got $200 gifts from my parents. I got a chocolate egg. I'm allergic to chocolate. FML

Today, my ten year old son realized something. Beer is alcohol. People who drink a lot of alcohol are alcoholics. Therefore I am an alcoholic for drinking beer with dinner. He told everyone at his conservative private school and they tried to have an intervention. They pray for me every day. FML

Today, I woke up to find The Sims 2 running on pause on my laptop. I unpaused to find my character and my boyfriend's were no longer together. Slightly confused, I went on to find the note my boyfriend left. It said, "I hope you can take a hint." I got dumped through a computer game. FML

Today, I saw my friends talking about plans for later during lunch. I walked over and asked for the plan. My best friend of 12 years gently took me aside, and said "You know that person in each group of friends that is only around to be made fun of? That's you." I just got dumped by my friends. FML

Today, I was struggling through an exam and the hot girl next to me seemed to be flying through the questions. So I cheated off her. When we finished I asked her to lunch. She said "No, I just rushed through the exam so I can go fuck my boyfriend." I got shutdown and probably failed an exam. FML

Today, the police posted a description of the car of a child abductor. As everyone slowed down to read the billboard, I realized that the car's description and license plate were very similar to mine. After getting death stares from passengers, I got pulled over. Twice. FML

a picture (in this case video) is worth a 1000 words...

Yeah O gave a speech last night at West Point. The cadets were classy as expected but bored? Oh yeah. This guy had the balls to go to a military academy where he would have never last one week with his elitest, pretentious ass. I'm sorry, the fact that this POS is CinC is disgusting and embaressing to me.
