week in review in sports

This is the first of a weekly series I will be doing on sundays recapping the week in sports. The Twins opened Target Field this week and are 4-2 in their first week there. I was able to go on Wednesday and I will have pictures up next weekend because I got a few good ones before the weather turned south in about the 4th inning. It did rain of course, just my fucking luck, and I was "hardcore" (read normal for other baseball fans) and didn't run for shelter unlike nearly everyone around me at the first sign of more than a sprinkle. Not going to lie, it was kind of embaressing but what can you expect after 28 years of indoor baseball, people need to, and hopefully will, toughen up. It is an amazing and unique stadium. It seats 39,000 and that makes it one of the smaller stadiums in the league but it is cozy and you have a great view of downtown from just about any seat in the park. Last night was very interesting in baseball, a no hitter (first ever by the rockies, and the guy walked 6 batters) and a 20 inning game. Talk about 2 rare occurances on the same freaking night. Hockey playoffs started this week. Basketball did too, the big difference is people actually care about the basketball playoffs (sorry hockey fans), go Thunder! The World Cup is only about 6-7 weeks away and I will have more on that in teh coming weeks. The NFL draft starts on Thursday meaning they are going to drag it out over 3 days now, but there are some changes this year. Normally the first 3 rounds are broadcasted starting at 11am on Saturday but clearly not enough people were watching and the interest wasn't as high, so the NFl, being the money whores they are came up with this idea (which even though it sounds like I'm slamming it, and I only kind of am, it is actually a pretty genius move)

The first round will take place on Thursday, April 22, beginning at 7:30 PM ET. The NFL is looking to take advantage of the fact that more people watch TV during the prime time hours on Thursday night than any other time.

The second and third rounds will begin at 6:30 PM ET on Friday, April 23. The final four round of the draft are now scheduled for Saturday, April 24, beginning at 10:00 AM ET.

The new format will likely result in a few more trades as teams will now have long breaks between rounds 1 and 2 and again between rounds 3 and 4. The NFL is clearly hoping to make the draft an even bigger TV event than it already is.

I'll write a recap of how my Vikings did and where any Gopher players (see: Eric Decker) went and if there were any surprises like last year (Raiders and crazy Al).
Thats all for this week.
